My girlfriend and I needed to get away and have a "us" weekend, I had stayed at the Clarion Del Mar once before, but didnt really have a chance to utilize all that it had to offer, nor experience the service, which I tend to be a bit critical on. I was in the restaurant business as a corporate manager for many years, as well as now a business owner myself, and I have to say, I was MORE than impressed with phenominal customer service, and complete experience which we were so lucky to receive. I can honestly say, that it was by far one of my most pleasurable hotel stays I have ever experienced, and that is based off of having traveled to over 20 various countries, and the multitude of hotels which that encompased. I look forward to many many more opportunites to stay at the Del Mar Inn, and thank them for helping me 'seal the deal' with my future Mrs.

As usual, one of our favorite spots to travel - and stay. Everyone was most cordial, the room was perfect - very fresh, spacious, comfy beds - and the staff in general gave great service. We'll be back! Thanks for everything.

I used to work here as Night Auditor many years ago. I miss this hotel very much and the owner(at the time) who took very good care of the English gardens. I would love to stay here one day for all the memories.

My 20-year old son had to have radiation treatments at Scripps five days a week for seven weeks - with only a week's notice. I couldn't take that much time off of work, but he didn't drive yet. After days of frustrating calls trying to find a place for him to stay for a reasonable cost, on a bus line, where, if he got really fatigued, we would be assured he would have food nearby, the hospital referred us to the Del Mar Inn. I grew up in La Jolla, and that would have been the last place I would have checked - I am so glad they told us. My son had a room overlooking the ocean, and it had a kitchenette. There was a shuttle that took him back and forth to the hospital every day. They let him do his laundry there once a week, and he had housekeeping 3 times a week. Best of all, the woman who did the continental breakfast every morning (she was SO sweet!) made his favorite smoothies, and even saved one if he couldn't get up in time. Being he had adominal radiation, those smoothies were life-saving! Everyone was so nice, and really cared about him. The best was that he could take a very short walk to the beach to watch the sunset or the trains going by, or down the street when he felt up to it to visit the little shops or restaurants - he never got bored. I will forever thank them for helping us get through such a horrible time. They really are wonderful and I can't thank them enough!

We have stayed at this hotel six different times in the past three years. We appreciate the longevity and stability of the staff. We feel safe and secure when staying at this hotel. It is also a very quiet place to stay, and we enjoy the ocean view.

Just wanted to add that we will be back! When we got home we couldn't stop thinking about how nice everyone was at the hotel, how clean and spacious the rooms were and how utterly charming the garden view with its big pool and hot tub. We bought some Gerry Weintraub photo/paintings of Del Mar Beach, which we framed, and every time we look at them we concur that we must go back soon.

I had a very delightful stay here. The staff was helpful and welcoming. There is a good sized pool and the hot tub was quite large and clean, which I enjoyed. The bed was extreamly comfortable and clean as well as the rest of the room. The pastrys in the morning made a tasty light breakfast. The view was breath taking. This is a great place, to stay for business or leisure, with a relaxing environment.

The Del Mar Inn is a lovely spot, marred by the fact that we didn't want to leave! Our room, overlooking the beautiful garden/pool area, was charming, and the bed was unbelievably comfortable. We beg to differ with the person who did not like the continental breakfast served free very morning. We thought it was delicious and generous, and the caring woman who served us was wonderful. The hotel is in a perfect spot (although not AT the beach; I think that should be pointed out to those who might think it is) in that it is right in the hub of relaxing, affordable and fun downtown Del Mar, with its neat restaurants and shops. (We particularly liked the huge sandwiches at Board & Brew, and the enchanting bookstore). One thing I must report: Do not look for the Del Mar Inn with the name Clarion! It was very frustrating to keep going round and round after a long car ride, and finally realizing that it is no longer a Clarion and that the Clarion sign is barely noticeable. Management really needs to change this in its advertising. However, that is a minor point. We've toured the whole California coast, and we feel that Del Mar offers the best beaches, the best, most accessible panoramic views of surf and surfers alike, and the easiest shopping/restaurant situation for visitors. Go! You won't be disappointed!

Let me just warn you that this review will be nothing but good things. So, if you want to know about any deficiencies in this hotel, I won't be saying much. I'll start off by saying that when I first looked up this place using GoogleMaps street view, it was a little bit daunting. It looked a little old from the outside, and I was worried that it would be one of those creaky old motels from a horror flick. When I got there, I entered the lobby and it was very small and cozy. I felt a little better. Check in went very smoothly and when I entered the room, I fell in love with it immediately. The sheets and towels were very clean. The free shampoo/soaps were from bath and body works and awesome. The room itself looked very modern, and it was just a fantastic stay. The hotel desk was very friendly. I called them multiple times to ask about restaurants within walking distance or pizza delivery numbers. Each time they offered great advice. My last favorite thing about the hotel was the free shuttle service to UCSD. I was there because I wanted to visit UCSD, and so the shuttle was a deciding factor. It was more like a free taxi ride, than a shuttle. You schedule in advance, and a person comes and takes you in a van to the campus. They ask you if you need a ride back and they ask you when and where. They are there waiting for you promptly and are willing to take you back to the hotel. What an awesome place.

Jun 11, 2010 | Trip type: Family 1person found this review helpfulI stayed at the Clarion Del Mar Inn for 4 nights in early June and was pleasantly surprised. The bathroom had been renovated and was clean. The whole room was very clean even if the furniture is a tad outdated. We had a 3rd floor ocean view room. Be advised there are apartment buildings and houses between the hotel and the view of the ocean. The pool area/breakfast area is very charming. Customer service was really good from everyone, including the breakfast staff.

There are 3 things I am particular about in a hotel, and this one was great for all 3. The first is cleanliness. I don't like finding old food, food wrappers, or other things in a hotel room upon checking in. This had none of those. It was pretty darn clean and didn't have a smell at all.

The second is quietness. I was right across the hall from the elevators and had no issues sleeping. I heard nothing from the other rooms but the plumbing in the bathroom, which is hard to avoid in any hotel. I only heard it while I was IN the bathroom.

The third (which also helps with the noise level) is the air conditioning/fan. The fan/heat/A/C unit in this room ran constantly if you turned it on, and could be turned on low or high. I ran it on high all night for some great white noise, which drowned out any outside noises and I slept like a log, as did my 3-year-old daughter.

For the money, this hotel is a great value in the Del Mar area.

Jun 9, 2010 | Trip type: Family 1person found this review helpfulWe had a great time staying at the Del Mar Inn! Not to far from San Diego, actual perfect distance. Right near the ocean. Great view. We walked to restuarants. Great restaurants near by. Loved the pool and jaccuzi. Would definitely stay there again if traveling to San Diego!
